Nicolay was an English geologist and geographer who divided his time both as a chaplain and a librarian for Kings College in London. After helping found Queen's College for women, he spent some time in Brazil before settling in Australia. He wrote numerous geographical and geological works including a "Handbook of Western Australia" for prospective migrants. His work on Oregon includes descriptions of travel in the interior as well as charting explorers' routes. |
