This is Tillyard's account of the four 18th-century Lennox sisters, great-grandchildren of Charles II. All married prominent men (among them John Churchill, the Duke of Marlborough) and were well known in their lifetime. But their less public lives: secret marriages, love affairs, and feuds are also given due attention by the author. This is an exquisitely illustrated and unabashedly frank family history
