Of the 224 pieces carvings presented in this book, 155 pieces are from the Qing Dynasty, 28 pieces are from the Ming Dynasty, only precedes the Ming Dynasty and 2 lag behind the Qing Dynasty. Among them, 60 pieces are bamboo carvings, 50 pieces are wood carvings, 77 pieces are ivory carvings and 37 pieces are rhinoceros horn carvings. They are the most beautiful and precious ones. They could best represent the carving techniques and the art level of that time. The 224 pieces of carvings showed here is only a part of the collection of such kind in the Palace Museum. Nearly all of them were belongs of the emperors or royal families. They are elite of its kind and cultural relics.
