Description

Easton PA: Unbound, 1920 A wonderful, signed typescript of a speech presented by the noted composer, George Balch Nevin (1859-1933). Seven pages in length, it covers details of the evolution of the stringed instrument from the lutes and cithers to the modern (circa 1920 when this was written) guitar as we know it today. Signed across the top, just below the title- "Geo B Nevin / Easton Pa / Read at the Winter Meeting of the Northampton County Hist. & Geneological Society, Feb 3, 1920." On the back of the last page is a list of names (perhaps some of the attendees and or subscribers), in pencil, with a dollar amount (one to two dollars) next to each name. Names include Madison Porter, J. W. Fox, W. O. Hay, Mrs. Zac Tayor and one other not clearly identified. The manuscript has penciled corrections and changes throughout. Condition- Edges have numerous small chips, with a faint rust stain from a paper-clip on the upper-left margin of the first and last pages. Last pages missing a small piece from lower-right corner, but several inches from affecting text. Very light tanning around margins, but text and signature remain crisp and clear and easily readable. A very nice piece of American musical history.. Signed by Author. Unbound. Very Good. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.
