Original Studio Publicity Campaign Pressbook for THE HEIRESS by [James, Henry]: Goetz, Ruth and Augustus [adap]:
Book Description
[New York]: Paramount Pictures, [1949].. 32pp. plus 6 panel folded insert. Small folio. Textured gold metallic finish wrappers with pictorial label. Lavishly illustrated throughout. Minor bumps to corners, minor use, but a very good or better copy, accompanied by somewhat worn and split printed envelope. A particularly lavish promotional press book for William Wyler's 1949 film based on Ruth and Augustus Goetz's adaptation from their own stage-play, which, in turn, was adapted from James's WASHINGTON SQUARE. Olivia de Havilland won an Oscar for her role, as did Aaron Copland for his original score, and both Wyler and the film were nominated. Montgomery Clift and Ralph Richardson also starred, and the film was selected for the National Film registry in 1996. Among the most respected of the adaptations of a James property to the screen.
