The Goddess, A Demonby Marsh, Richard
Book description: Original full colour paperwraps. Published as part of Street & Smith's 'Adventure Library' series. 314pp and 4pp rear catalogue. Although the brittle pages are browned with age, the double-spaced text is uncommonly large for a paperwraps edition, running to 14 pages longer than the original novel. Light soiling, one edge chip where upper spine meets front cover, first two pages partially detached along gathering edge. Small wormhole to page fore edge (currently unoccupied). A remarkable survival of a vintage pulp novel from circa 1925-1930. The front cover depicts two men entering a room in which an Oriental idol sits on a dias. A highly sought after and inventive horror novel which features a creature whose body opens to reveal whirling razo-sharp knives which are used to slice its victims. The 1900 first edition is uncommon, this seventy five year old paperback is probably even rarer. Richard Marsh authored a dozen or so highly collectible horror novels and short story collections; he was the grandfather of the late Robert Aickman, another notable writer of weird tales.
