First edition with very rare dustwrapper. Original pale cream cloth with black spine titles. Frontispiece ["What?.....It's gone, man. The skull is gone!"], 302pp plus 8pp rear catalogue. A very sharp copy with one neat insciption and very trivial rubbing to spine ends. The green and white dw features a repeated art nouveau design and has black cover and spine titles. The dw is a little chipped with some minor loss to spine ends. It is protected in a mylar cover and has had some internal tape reinforcement along folds to repair closed tears (sounds worse than it is because it is not unsightly and is invisible from front anyway). A bright copy in a fabulously rare dw. The UK edition of this collection ('Uncanny Tales') was published in different claret coloured cloth and omitted the fine frontispiece which depicts two men looking aghast into an empty hat box. A collection of seven extremely well-written and stylish ghost stories.
