Very good condition 9 volume set, pub: 1877, 1880, 1882, 1885, 1886 by F. Hayez, Imprimeur de L'Academie Royale de Belgique, Brussels. The set consists of 5 Annals (11 x 16 inches tall) and 4 large (22 1/2 x 15 1/2 inches tall) Atlases with plates. The text is in French. The four Atlases are: 1878, Deuxime Partie, Tome IV, BalŽnides, 39 Plates; 1882, Troisime Partie, Tome VII, Genres: Megaptera, Balaenoptera, Burtinopsis, et Erpetocetus, 59 Plates; 1885, Quatrime Partie, Tome IX, Genre: Plesiocetus; 30 Plates; 1886, Cinquime Partie, Tome XIII, Genres: Amphicetus, Heterocetus, Mesocetus, Idiocetus et Isocetus; 75 Plates.The Annals are: 1877, Premire Partie, Tome I, 88 pgs; full page map; 8 small maps (4 x 2 1/2 inches tall) ; several small figures (7 x 2 or 3 inches tall); 1880, Deuxime Partie, Tome IV, 82 pgs, text and a few figures; 1882, Troisime Partie, Tome VII, 87 pgs, text and 3 figures; 1885, Quatrime Partie, Tome IX, 40 pgs, text; 1886, Cinquime Partie, Tome XIII, 139 pgs, text and 1 figure. Between 1860 and 1867, eight forts were built around Antwerp, Belgium. Van Beneden Beneden examined a number of bones of fossil whales uncovered by the excavations and published his work on the extinct species. The Annals have blue paper covers. The Atlases have reinforced blue paper covers. Some have a Wiesbaden oval stamp and some crayon or pencil marks on the cover. The Annales, Tome XIII, cinquime, is missing the front cover. The title page of this volume is separated, frayed on the edges but present. The other covers are worn on the edges and the paper covering the spine has frayed on some of the spines. The interiors are clean with no marks in them. Foxing is light. Plates are clean..
