1953 The Unicorn group attempted to show the cutting edge of art from the Monpellier art circle which include author-artist, Henry Miller, Arthur Secunda, Haniel Long, Frederic Jacques-Temple, and published in a very small print run Prospectus, an occasional paper on subjects ranging from Eugene O'Neill to Rabeleis to William Saroyan. It was during this time in the period 1953-54 that the paper was published. Authors besides Miller, included Joseph Delteil, Jean Neuberth and others. With their influence Haniel Long's La merveilleuse adventure de Cabeza from the American edition into a small print run of 700 copies. The book printed five Secunda lithographs and four of the signed, original copies are present in this collection. The three letters from Haniel Long and his son, Tony, cover the period 1956-57. The first is to Frederic Jacques-Temple addressed here simply as "Temple", Haniel Long writes regarding Secunda "I am no less impressed by his illustrations today than I was when I first saw them. He entered the chamber of that suffering man's heart. The illustrations once seen are not esy to forget. My friends to whom I gave the French copy often refer to them." A second letter to Secunda speaks of his admiration of the artist's drawings, the third of the passing of Haneil and Mrs. Long, who passed within four days of one another. Present are Prospectus 1,2,3,4,5,6-7,8. Only Prospectus 6-7 is recorded in OCLC. The lithographs are thee artist's proofs: He Cured and Cured, Horsemen, the Boat Rocked and Carbexa de Vaca. Each is signed by Secunda with some dated such as the last one in 1950. A truly scarce group of the Unicorn Group in Montpellier.. Very Good.
