Book description: Rouen, France: N/A, 1485 ca 1485. Original illuminated medieval manuscript double-sided leaf (two pages) from a richly decorated Book of Hours. 15 lines written in dark brown ink in gothic bookhand; 12 single-line and 1 double-line gold initials on red and blue grounds. Faint red rubrication. 12.1cm by 8.4 cm. Illuminated under the influence of the Master of the Eschevinage de Rouen (also called the Master of the Geneva Latini), the dominant illuminator in Rouen after the departure of the English in 1449, when the city became a flourishing centre of manuscript production. His compositions influenced the entire next generation of Rouen artists, such as Robert Boyvin. Very good condition, including the gold. Lightly rubbed with faint toning at margin.. Leaf. Very Good.
