Book Description

"New edition" - First single volume edition (subsequent to the two issues of the triple decker edition). A stunning copy, most likely the best available anywhere in the world. Original dark navy heavily blindstamped cloth; ornate gilt spine titles and devices; black endpapers; 471pp + [1pp advert unnumbered]. Decorative woodcuts to chapter and story headings. Lower corner tips very slightly nicked, trivial rubbing to spine ends. Interior very bright, endpapers in pristine condition, binding very sturdy. Collection of five highly regarded Le Fanu novellas inc 'Green Tea' (supernatural horror), 'The Familiar' (supernatural horror), 'Mr Justice Harbottle' (supernatural horror), 'The Room In The Dragon Volant' (gothic horror i.e. premature burial) and the famous and oft-filmed 'Carmilla' (vampire horror with powerful erotic overtones). Undoubtedly Le Fanu's strongest and most eagerly sought-after original collection, authored at the height of his powers. Decent copies of the original triple decker in original cloth are impossibly rare; of the several copies of this single volume I have examined or seen offered for sale, this is the only one I would rate as being in exemplary collector's condition.
