My Life in a Man-Made Jungleby Belle J. Benchley
DescriptionSigned by author on the half title page. No writing, marks, or page creasing. Slight bump to front and rear cover side edge which is barely noticeable. Wrinkle to bottom of spine cover. Slight bump to upper rear cover corner. This is a reprint published in September of 1940. A great autobiography about the authors life at the San Diego Zoo. Belle was born in 1882. She was hired by the San Diego Zoological Garden as a bookeeper in 1925. She was not a scientist or a naturalist but an animal lover. Two years later she became the director and held that position until she retired in 1953. She was the first woman in the world to hold such a position. She passed away in 1973. This book brought her international fame. She was so attuned to the animals that she could frequently detect illnesses in them before it was evident to it's keeper or veterinarian. |
