J.A. Jance gives another smooth performance with "Name Withheld", her February hardcover.
When a floater turns up on New Year's Day, Seattle homicide detective J.P. Beaumont is assigned to the case. Beau discovers that the dead man, Don Wolf, was involved in the cutthroat world of genetic engineering, and that his death is lamented by no one.
Beau's investigation is thwarted by his temporary partner, a man who is resentful of Beau's wealth and style. When another corpse turns up, he knows he will have all he can do to put his feelings aside to solve the case.
`Name Withheld' is a solid piece of storytelling. Jance is a master of producing realistic, involving procedurals and `Name Withheld' is a prime example.
