304 pp. First edition of the author's first volume of stories (of which only 7500 were originally printed), with the "A" on the copyright page and "rer" for "her" on line 21 of p.59. SIGNED BY AUTHOR "Sincerely, Thomas Wolfe Feb. 19, 1936" on the front fly-leaf. Contains "Death the Proud Brother," "Only the Dead Know Brooklyn," "The Four Lost Men," "The Web of Earth," and other stories. Bound in the original reddish-brown cloth with gilt lettering and rules to the spine and front board; much of the gilt has been rubbed off. Binding is straight, sturdy, with only a little bit of "give." Pages are very lightly age-tanned, no markings. Dustjacket is missing. Book has been exposed to water and cloth on front cover has bubbled as a result; there is also a water stain to top of page block near spine. Edges of covers are lightly worn, corners lightly bumped.
