In addition the breeding ranges of 167 species from adjoining areas are mapped in order to show patterns of distribution across Eurasia as a whole. A text accompanies the map of each Western Palaearctic species and they are also mapped individually. The bird's status, climatic range, typical habitats and nest sites are given. An introduction to each family or group of species comments on the general pattern of distribution and gives details of species that are not mapped individually.
