Book desription: London: Cassell, Petter, Galpin. Domestic medicine; cookery; the household mechanic; gardening; management of children; cottage farming; marketing; the toilette; furniture; animals kept for profit. Covers have lovely gilt vignettes of a kitchen range and a summerhouse, and a bird in a cage on the spine. Each volume has frontispiece and one plate in chromolitho, with numerous engravings in the text. No date given, looks 1860s/70s. Complete in four volumes (was also issued in 2 vols in half calf). Vol. 1 has wear on corners & spine ends; spine split on front joint about inch at top & 2 inches at bottom, rear joint a little split at top; gilt a little worn on front; prelims and first leaf are loose; little bit of underlining on page 2. Vol 2, wear on corners & spine ends, rear joint split about 2 ins at top. Vol 3, some wear corners & spine ends; gilt dull on spine and in one or two places on front; prelims & first leaf and one other leaf loose. Vol. 4, spine dull, some wear on corners, torn tissue guard on frontis. All have the hinges cracking a little and a few spots of foxing. Overall a nice set, obviously been used. Heavy; may require extra shipping to some destinations. 4 volumes, each 8 x 20ins. Gilt Decorated Cloth. Fairly Good/No Jacket. 8" x 10".
