Clean light green cloth boards with black lettering on spine, black horizontal stripe on cover and spine. Mere hint of slight fading to edges. No bumping or fraying. Binding is tight & square, no cracking. Pages and edges are clean (pages are tanned). No names, writing or bookplates. Issued without endpapers (Ahearn's Book Collecting 2000, page 301). 244 pgs. Dustjacket is quite clean, unfaded, corner price clipped at front inner flap, has small closed edge tears and a few tiny edge chips, long closed tear at front flap fold separating flap from front panel, author's photo on rear panel. Enclosed in new archival quality mylar cover. Scarce first edition, winner of the Edgar Award and author's first novel. Made into a movie in 1956 starring a young Robert Wagner and Joanne Woodward, and again in 1991 starring James Bonfanti, Sarah Keller and Matt Dillon. Mystery.
