An American Crusoe: A Record of Remarkable Adventures on a Desert Island with only a Jackknife by Verrill, A. Hyatt
New York: Dodd, Mead and Company, 1914. 251 pages. 2 duotone plates, one 2-page plate with map, black and white illustrations in text. Lovely clean book in about very good condition except for missing frontispiece. Bound in yellow cloth, bright and attractive, with picture in black, lettering in red and black. Minor bumping and wear to extremities. Binding is sound and reasonably tight, gap visible at half-title page. Contents clean and unmarked, paper faintly toned but supple, original bookseller's label (J H Kenner, Stratford, Ontario) on front endpaper. A rare and wonderful story, firmly based on fact, probabilities, and possibilities - including the author's research in the form of camping for several weeks on the very island described in the story, where he "actually attempted and performed every feat related in the story" with only one exception! . Hard Cover. Fair/No Jacket. Illus. by Martin Lewis. 5 x 7.5 in. (12.5cm x 19cm).
