By 1857 the Institute had built a small three-story structure that served as dormitory, classroom, refectory, kitchen, library, & chapel. One Prof taught 4 students studying to be missionaries in Africa. After U.S. President was assassinated in 1865, `Ashman' was renamed `Lincoln.' ||| This `Historical Sketch' marked 50 years in 1904; today Lincoln is co-ed, & far different from its 1904 predecessor.
