Book Description

Augustea, Rome & Milan: 1931. PRESENTATION COPY. First edition, Italian text, 19cm, 247 pages plus index, 8vo, white paper covers, this copy is inscibed to Giuseppe Prezzolini, signed "Casella," dated 1931. Born the year Wagner died (1883), Casella takes as his title the factoring of 47 arrivals of Spring: he completed the book in 1930. Accounts of Busoni as a pianist, a visit by Tolstoy, as well as his general theoretical and aesthetic views on his field from his unique perspective as a pianist-composer. The front cover has a slight chip off the lower right-hand corner, now expertly repaired, and the back cover has a small dog's ear also repaired without any paper loss. Except for the author-composer's introduction, this copy was never trimmed -- the pages are still unopened. Slight browning of the edges of the pages, otherwise a very good tight copy, rare inscribed and signed.
