New York: Viking, 1961. First Edition. 9.5"x8" Green decorated cloth. 33pp with brilliant color illustrations throughout. Momo finds a Nyan-Nyan, a kitten, and her parents let her keep it. The Momo of this story appears in several of their books and was the Yashimas' real-life daughter. Inscribed, dated (Merry Christmas 1961), and signed with his chop to the dedication page by California artist Taro Yashima (who wrote and illustrated two Caldecott Honor books). Yashima also painted a small watercolor of Momo and Nyan-Nyan, charmingly representing the child and her kitten as little Kokeshi dolls. Fine in Very Good dustjacket, lightly chipped, small smudge to lower panel, apparently from the artist's watercolors. A special copy.Keywords: signed children's picture book signed.
