'This work was originally published under the title of the 'Saracen' and as the romance has been justly celebrated, both abroad and at home, under the name Matilda, it has been resumed in this second edition, not only in compliment to its deceased authoress, but as conveying that preference which gallantry would rather pay to the heroine than the hero'. The author, Sophia Cottin, nee Ristaud (1770-1807) was acclaimed for her novel 'Elizabeth'. Gilt on red title block to spine in six compartments on half calf leather with marbled boards. Wear to boards and edges with light age marking to pages as expected for their age with some loss to spine of Volume 2. Volume 1 - xxiv + 231 pages.
