First Edition
Angus & Robertson, 1948. First Edition. Hardcover (Original Cloth). Good Condition/Fair. Illustrator: Arthur Mailey. Signed by Bradman et al. Size: Octavo (standard book size). Text body is clean, and free from previous owner annotation, underlining and highlighting. Binding is tight, covers and spine fully intact. Slight foxing front/rear pages, but body of book mostly clean and unfoxed. Dust Jacket intact with flaps, but has chunk missing from spine, and other signs of wear. Dust Jacket un-clipped. Acknowledgement page contains a small ink caricature of Bradman signed by Arthur Mailey. The original owner has then collected a huge volume of signatures (mostly ink) on the endpapers and flyleaf from nearly all of the cricketing greats of that period, (1940s- early 1950s) including Ray Lindwall, Keith Miller, Kippax, Ian Johnson, Doug Ring, Bert Oldfield, Sid Barnes (pencil), Gil Langley, Ken Archer, W.A. Johnston, Sam Loxton, Ken Meuleman, G. Barwick, Jim Burke, Arthur Morris, Ron Saggers, Bill O'Reilly, Neil Harvey and many more. On the front endpaper there are a number of signatures from NSW and Manly Cricket Club at that period: Tom Brooks, E. Robinson, Alan Walker, Jim Burke (again) and many, many more. The rear endpaper carries 4 signatures of NZ players, including J.H. Phillips. Accompanying this extraordinary collection is a postacrd of the P&O liner Stratheden" with 18 signatures from the English touring party including Len Hutton, A.W. Bedser, F.R. Brown, Dennis Compton, R. Berry, D. Wright and 12 others. Tape has been applied around the front endpaper and the frontispiece, which has browned with age, but this crosses just a small few of the signatures. A remarkable one-off collection of cricket memorabilia. Illustrator: Arthur Mailey. Quantity Available: 1. Shipped Weight: Under 1 kilogram.
