Fine original blindstamped pigskin binding over wood. "Justitia 1562" to upper board and "Lucretia 1562" to lower board. Blindstamping by Caspar the Elder. For references to Binding, see Haebler 214. For references to Bible, see Adams B 1096. Lavishly illustrated bible by Pierre Eskrich, or Cruche, with over 400 woodcut illustrations to the text. Most of the woodcuts had appeared in Rouillé's 1562 Biblia Sacra. (Brun, p. 125). Eskrich was well acquainted with series of blocks by Bernard Salomon on the same subjects, which is clear in this set. // Binding rubbed and soiled; lower corner chipped, upper corner with wear. Title page stained and old stamp; minor fraying; some browning and staining internally, some pages more heavily used with a few very minor repairs; a few tiny marginal faults but no loss; towards end some very early marginalia; the first 14 leaves with one tiny wormhole. // EXTREMELY RARE!!!!.
