Dust jacket is lacking a one-inch piece to the foot of front flap-fold plus a half-inch piece to the bottom edge; half-inch tear to bottom of front joint; spine sunned; half-inch tear to bottom edge of rear panel with quarter-inch nick to top edge. A biography of Ambrosio O'Higgins and his son Don Bernardo. Ambrosio was born in Ireland in 1720, to escape the poverty he fled to Spain and from there to Chile. There he sired an illegitimate son, Bernardo. Prior to his father's appointment as Viceroy of Peru, the son was sent to England. Whilst there he plunged himself into working for the freedom of his countrymen from Spanish rule. He returned to South America and played a great part in the Chilean revolt of 1810 - 1817 and became known as the 'Liberator of Chile'.
