Book Description
This is both Old and New Testaments, in Today's English Version (TEV), renowned for its clarity. This is a new translation that seeks to state accurately the meaning of the original texts in words and idioms used by people who speak English. Many older translations use a different vocabulary and sentence structure. In contrast, Today's English Version attempts to use standard, everyday English. The aim of this translation, then, is to give today's readers the maximum understanding feasible of the original Scripture. The preface to this Bible explains the principles used in editing; also included are an explanation of the special helps in this volume, such as the word list and the index.
This revision of TEV was published in 1990, to reconsider (1) passages in which the English style has been unnecessarily exclusive and inattentive to gender concerns and (2) passages in which the translation has been seen as problematic or insensitive, from either a stylistic or exegetical perspective.
This Bible is enriched with line drawings especially prepared for this translation, as well as extensive notes, cultural and historical.
