GETTING THEM INTO THE BLUE:by Gann, Ernest K.:First Edition
NY: Thomas Y. Crowell,, 1942. VG/VG in archival quality protective mylar. 154 pgs. Touted author Ernest K. Gann, who later became known for several fiction bestsellers such as 'Fate Is the Hunter' first began his career as a pilot and authored non-fiction aviation books. In this rare copy, he explains how planes are planned, made and powered. From the drafting boards and mock-ups, through the factories and into the sky, he provides a fascinating and educated look at what was modern aviation at t he time of publication. Gann tells of Glenn L. Martin's first factory, modern plants from the North American assembly line, and smaller factories doing specialized jobs. Also provides a portrait of the aircraft worker, what he does and how much he gets paid to do it, the need for training, working conditions, future prospects, construction of the engines and planes from "new" explosive rivets to a look at tomorrow's productions. A graphic account by this pilo/author well-familiarized with planes. Text enhanced with vintage B/W photographs, design plans, etc. Very nice clean tight copy in a quite presentable dust jacket that shows slight edgewear and small chip at top spine with surprisingly very little color fade--illustration is still quite bright, as is the text on the jacket.. First Edition.
