Beige cloth covered boards, with embossed illustration, and with dust jacket; this volume was privately owned, not from a library. Dust jacket is in good condition only. It is in a new mylar wrapper, but has the edges tattered, with a few pieces of old tape and several closed tears, including one which is six inches long but is fully closed (with acid-free glue, a decent restoration job) and not noticeable at arms length. There are tiny chips at the spine ends of the dust jacket (bottom is 1/4 inch; top is 3/8th inch); the overleafs remain intact and are not price-clipped. The dust jacket does display nicely and would present well, front out, at a book fair. The book itself is in very good (minus) condition. The cover has a few small stains and lightly rubbed spots, but is primarily crisp and bright. There is a small bend to the bottom corner of the front free-endpaper. This book has been read, and the pages are lightly wrinkled but remain clean with no tears; binding is tight. The previous owner's name is neatly written on both the front free-endpaper, and the title page; no other extraneous writing. Overall, a well cared for, but used condition, First Edition of Van Allsburg's first book, winner of the Caldecott. There are no Caldecott markings for this book, as it is a First Edition with full number line.
