NY, Beginner Book (Random House), 1963. No indication of printing history. "Book Club Edition". 8vo. 62pp. Pictoral boards. Photographs by Lynn Fayman. Hardcover: Very Good (light wear to extremities; mild rubbing and soiling to sheen of decorated cloth-over-boads; a few superficial dings at outside edges of boards; faint foxing at outside edges); binding square and secure; text clean. Despite some minor flaws, remains a very presentable copy. Without dustjacket, as issued. "Do You Know what I'm Going to Do Next Saturday?" fueled my own childhood hopes and dreams. The narrator, a pre-teen boy, describes all the incredible plans and schemes he intends to fulfill on Saturday. Each plan, more ambitious than the first, gets a photo illustration which suggests, just slightly, what the wish fulfillment could be, if only it could be. This book is a wonderful metaphor for the shining notion of "Saturday as liberation", a perfect capture of that sense of anticipation that after 43 years on this earth, I still bring to each Friday. I love this book, because it's simple, direct, and yet keys into fantasies about "exciting weekends" I have had all my life. A sweet, earnest, goofy, fun book.
