Photo portrait from a magazine, 2 1/2 x 3 3/8 in. tipprd onto a mat & inscribed in pen undernerath photo "With my best wish Yours truly G.W. Cable Northampton, Mass., 1914." The whole thing on a nice oversize black mat, 8 x 10 in. Cable (1844-1925) was an American novelist notable for the realism of his portrayals of Creole life in his native Louisiana, with fiction anticipating that of Faulkner. Opposed the harsh racism of the post-C.W, South and was resented by many white Southerners. He promoted civil rights, & in 1884 moved to Massachusetts. He became friends with Mark Twain and the two writers did speaking tours together. His most notable book was "Old Creole Days." W/ 2pp. photocopied biography.
