Publisher's full blue cloth, gilt (black) lettering on red panels on spine with embossed decoration, gilt (red and black) lettering in red borders on cover, TEG (red), fore-edge deckle. vi, (ii), 605, xxi, (1) pp. This is an unread opy with a former owner's signature on the ffep and printed bookplate on the fep, else as new. FINE. First book by Shirer, who was European correspondent for the Chicago Tribune from 1925-1932, then chief of the Berlin bureau from 1934-1940, making occasional broadcasts for the CBS. In a gripping first-hand contemporary document, the author reports on the rise of the Nazi "New Order," and the conquest of the low countries and France from Berlin and Paris.. Book Club (BCE/BOMC). dust jacket : A protective and often decorative wrapper, usually made of paper which wraps around the binding of a book.

8vo : Short for Octavo, A book whose page size is approximately 8-10 inches tall. The size is based on a sheet of paper 25 inches by 38 inches, the size of paper traditionally used by book printers, which has been folded and cut into 16 pages..
Unfortunately often misunderstood to mean 8 volumes.
bookplate : A device (often decorative) affixed to the book, usually on the endpapers, which designates ownership (or former ownership).
ffep : Front free endpaper. Generally, the first page of a book.
As New : "the book is in the same immaculate condition in which it was published. There can be no defects, no missing pages, no library stamps, etc., and the dust jacket (if it was issued with one) must be perfect without any tears." Condition definition from AB Bookman's Weekly.
Cloth : Generally refers to a hardcover with cloth covering the outside of the book covers.
