ABC. 1967. Loose plates in box.n.p.: The Leslie Company. 1967. (First edition). Square quarto. 30 loose sheets in pictorial box with silk ribbon print lifter. Fine in box with a trace of scuffing to the edges else near fine. A spectacular copy of the scarce and wonderful collection of images by photographer Frank Bez of twenty-six women, each representing a letter of the alphabet, and reproduced on their own sheet with a corresponding word on the verso. The women photographed include Elke Sommer (Basic), Raquel Welch (Narcissistic), Jane Fonda (Radiant), Marlene Dietrich (Vintage), Ann Margaret (Yare), etc. Two of the included sheets include the names of the models and the photographic information for each image. Concept by Stephanie LeVanda. A beautiful copy of a virtually unknown 60's item in spectacular condition. Rare.
plates : Full page illustrations or photographs. Plates are printed separately from the text of the book, and bound in at production. I.e., they are not sewn as parts of gatherings. verso : The page bound on the left side of a book, opposite to the recto page. quarto : A term used generally to describe the approximate size of a book, a book that is about 10" to 12" tall and roughly squarish in shape. The term is based on the size of paper traditionally used by book printers which has been folded and cut into 16 pages.
