IDYLLS OF THE KINGby Tennyson, Alfred Lord
DescriptionG. P. Putnam's Sons, the Knickerbocker Press, New York: [1902]. With 31 illustrations in photogravure, reproduced from the original designs of Gustave Doré, [2 leaves; frontispiece, ix; 170 pages; frontispiece, ix; 132 pages; 2 leaves], 8vo, 19.5cm. Two volumes bound into one book. Volume 1 contains the "Dedication," "Enid," and "Vivien." Volume 2 contains "Elaine" and "Guinevere." This edition is a reprint of the original Moxon folio edition with Gustave Doré's illustrations. (The first two idylls were privately printed under the title "Enid and Nimue" in 1857. Tennyson changed "Nimue" to "Vivien.") This particular copy has been bound in full crushed red levant with raised bands, gold lettering on an otherwise plain spine. With darker red end cloths, bordered with gold tooling on the inside edges both covers, and top page edge gilding, this is a very fine interlined copy in a magnificent, pristine, tight, vintage luxury binding. |
