Book Description

New York: The Dial Press. Near Fine in Very Good+ dust jacket. 1973. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. 0803797303 . B&W Illustrations; Children's Book. Sturdy reinforced library binding (but not ex library copy) . Spine ends & corners of book covers have a bit of light bumping and rubbing. Text pages clean & bright. Previous owner's name inked on front pastedown in red ink . Inside rear pastedown has several faint white brushstrokes (mostly erased). Spine ends & corners of dust jacket have a bit of light bumping & rubbing. Dust jacket has been clipped at the top corner, however, the price of 4.58 is still on the bottom front flap corner. Top rear corner of dust jacket has a small tear right at the flap hinge. There is another small tear to front flap of dust jacket in the center. Rear dust jacket still has the original stpre price sticker. Spine of dust jacket has started to darken just a bit due to sunning. Overall, a very good copy+ "Sam lived with his family in a nice house. He had a big yard and lots of friends. But he wanted donuts, not just a few but hundreds and thousands and millions-more donuts than his mother and father could ever buy him." This is Stamaty's first book of fiction by himself (he illustrated one book for Frank Asch in 1970) and after doing several books, he moved on to political cartoons and a contributor to Slate Magazine. The illustrations in this book are tightly packed and there are visual gags, things to find (similar and possibly the inspiration for some of the Eye-Spy type books) and an endless amount of just plain stuff. .
