Lavishly illustrated with colour and b&w photographs, reproductions of art works, manuscripts etc. Bound in illustrated card covers with flaps. Very faint crease to bottom fore-corner of front cover; light reading creas to spine. Small mark to bottom edge put there by the organizers of the sale at which I bought it. A massive tome, weighing in at something over 7lbs, it was published on 4 September, 1995, the same day on which the Benedictine monks of San Martino in 1495 donated a house at San Paio to Lopo Gomez de Marzoa so that he might constitute a college. This grew into the University of Santiago de Compostela. A massive exhibition was organized to celebrate the " V Centenary" with King Juan Carlos I and Queen Sofia as Honorary Presidents. This book is called an "Exhibition Catalogue" but it goes far beyond what one would normally expect in a catalogue, containg as it does an excellent history of the university and it's many departments. On top of which you would need a wheelbarrow to tote it around the exhibition. The quality of the illustrations, the text and the overall production is magnificent. With the exception of a few side-bars and some transliterations of early documents the text is in English. The title " Gallaecia Fvlget" ( or Fulget) is taken from an engraved stone preserved in the College of Santiago Alfeo. Would appear to be a scarce item.. ISBN: 8481213063. First Edition.
