First 10 pages soiled and spotted, some scattered foxing throughout, p. 157/158 loss to upper corner, blank before titlepage of part 2 torn away, soiling to titlepage of 2nd part, ads misbound with some lacking, on the whole, not too bad with the second part being considerably cleaner than the first part, generally quite good. The author was a British army officer and brother of the editor.
8vo : Short for Octavo, A book whose page size is approximately 8-10 inches tall. The size is based on a sheet of paper 25 inches by 38 inches, the size of paper traditionally used by book printers, which has been folded and cut into 16 pages..
Unfortunately often misunderstood to mean 8 volumes.
