Book DescriptionOriginal green cloth with black titles to spine and front cover plus black garland design to all edges of front board. Pictorial dustwrapper featuring variant design from the US edition, depicting a cat and several nightmarish faces.The book is in sharp, near fine condition excepting for one vertical crease to the front endpaper and a few spots of foxing to the page fore edges. The dw is complete and unrestored with some light edge-chipping, a small number of short closed tears and a vertical crease on the back panel. A near fine copy in a near very good dw. 18 short stories including 'Nightmare Jack', 'The Badlands' and 'The Smoking Leg'. "...a dark power to equal which you must look back to Poe....smouldering imagination of the first order..." - Adelphi review quoted on dw; "[Metcalfe possessed]...a rare artistry, wit and intelligence - and by a restraint too often lacking in the genre." - TED Klein.
