New York: Random House, 1948. Stated First printing. Hardcover. Very Good/very good. First Edition, First Printing, so stated. Bound in the first issue dust jacket with burgundy boards and endpapers. Four-edges of the pages are untrimmed. Book absolutely square and tight, with sharp edges and perfectly stamped gold lettering. Dust jacket is first state with original $5.95 price on the inside flap, and the required I/66 on the bottom of the front flap. Several chips and tears along the base, top, and bottom of spine and one 2 1/2" closed tear along the fold where front cover meets front flap. Color faded only slightly by age and light. Even with a less than fine dust jacket, it is extraordinary to find this classic in such remarkably good condition.
