"The earliest plates were simple, watercolours, but later, as demand grew, the technique of theorem paintings coloured with the help of stencils was used to multiply the number of copies as quickly as possible"-Raphael, An Oak Spring Pomona 64 (for a similar but later specimen book by Dewey with a variant title and few plates). See also Reese, Stamped with a National Character 70 for a similar catalogue produced by D.W. Sargent. .
