Book summary

This sequel to THE HOUSE ON EAST 88TH STREET finds Lyle the friendly crocodile happily ensconced in the Primm family's comfortable Upper East Side brownstone. Everyone in the neighborhood loves Lyle--everyone, that is, except for grouchy Mr. Grumps and his high-strung cat, Loretta. Although Lyle tries hard to win Loretta's friendship, everything he does, including flashing her his most winning smile, only seems to frighten her, thus making Mr. Grumps even more angry. After a few more incidents (including one that reunites Lyle with his old song-and-dance partner Hector P. Valenti), Mr. Grumps is desperate to have Lyle banished from East 88th Street forever. Will Mr. Grumps get his wish, or will he learn that having a crocodile in the neighborhood can be a very good thing indeed? Two- and full-color illustrations accompany the text.
