Laramie as well as three weeks spent in the central Missouri river town of Boonville, recovering from a nearly fatal encounter with a blizzard on the plains. Duke Paul preserved an invaluable record of the Native American people and the people living in the struggling frontier communities up and down the Missouri as well as careful observations on the flora and fauna, the geography and geology of the regions through which he passed.
