Book Description
Samarqand, Uzbekistan: Aziia-Eir [Asia-Air], 1999 16 pp. Color plates. 4-page Russian text followed by a 4-page English translation. This well-illustrated pamphlet presents a brief history of the beautiful and imposing Bibi Khanum Mosque located in Samarqand, Uzbekistan. Although now partly in ruins, the mosque was built by Timur (Tamerlane) circa 1399-1400 to commemorate his defeat of the Sultanate of Delhi in 1399. Popular tradition also ascribes the construction of the monument to a wife of Timur, Bibi Khanum. There are two plates of miniature paintings and several color photographs with views of the ruined monument under restoration. CONDITION: Mild sunning along very edge of spine, with very light overall rubbing.. First Edition. Pamphlet. Very Good. 16 x 24 cm.
