Light endpaper tanning from binding materials; corner crease to one leaf near centre; else a fine, bright copy, yellow covers clean, no owner names. Dust jack et (art by Boris Artzybasheff) has a shallow chip and nicks across the head of the spine, foot of spine has small rubbed chips; one inch tear to top rear spine fold; nicks and very small chips to edges of front panel; one inch tear to rear panel; very small chips to outer corners; else VG and still quite attractive, colours bright, flap price intact. A nice copy of this novel by one of the undisputed giants of the detective fiction genre. Edition of 12.5 K copies in two bindings. The 1949 UK edition precedes.. First US edition. Hardcover. Octavo.
