Book desription: New York: Charles L. Webster & Company, 1894. First edition. Very Good ++/ Near Fine. A Very Good ++ to Near Fine copy (with some wear to the head and foot of the spine and to the corners, and some handling soiling) in the publisher's original greenish cloth, illustrated by Dan Beard; 4 page catalogue. No bookplate, signatures, or other indicia of ownership. A very attractive copy of a book that is becoming scarce in acceptable condition. In this tale, an early American work of science fiction, Tom Sawyer, dissatisfied with his life on the Mississippi and seeking new adventures, travels to Africa with Huckleberry Finn and their friend Jim in a motor-powered hot air balloon. Surviving encounters with robbers and lions, they see the pyramids of Egypt and the great Sphinx, eventually ending up on Mt Sinai prior to their return trip home. Twain intended to send the travelers to other distant places, but never did. A rather nice copy of this book often found in considerably worse condition.
