Book description: Dodd, Mead & Company, 1903. First edition. Near Fine. With the cover illustration and extremities virtually unworn, this is a near fine copy of a Dunbar title rather difficult to find in nice condition. This copy was INSCRIBED AND SIGNED BY THE AUTHOR TO HIS CLOSE FRIEND AND PHYSICIAN WILLIAM "BUD" BURNS. Doctor Burns was Dunbar's treasured friend as well as the physician who treated him for tuberculosis. Upon Burns' death in November of 1905, Dunbar, insisted on attending his funeral. It is believed that Dunbar caught a chill at the damp graveside service, leading to his own death three months later. This book is inscribed 'To my Friend, / William A. Burns / Sincerely yours / Paul Laurence Dunbar'. Dunbar inscriptions are rare and ones to persons as dear to him as was Bud Burns are scarcer still. Photos available upon request. THIS BOOK IS ELIGIBLE FOR A DISCOUNT OF UP TO 20% OFF THE PRICE SHOWN IN THIS LISTING FOR ORDERS PLACED ON OR BEFORE DECEMBER 31, 2009. (Not available in combination with any other discounts.)
