Ltd., 1896. 1/2 vellum over boards, paper spine label in red with "Shropshire" 33 mm wide, pp., vii (1),95,(1); title page in black and red, with 2 p. autographed note signed and envelope in Housman's hand, laid-in, note addressed "Trinity College Cambridge England 26 Nov. 1927" reads; "Dear Dr. Leonard, I shall be pleased to write my name in the two books. But I am afraid that you have paid an exorbitant price for the first edition of A Shropshire Lad and that you may wish to have it returned to you by registered post. This I can undertake,as the postal regulations (due I believe to the American custom-house) are too vexatious. I will send it back to you by ordianry letterpost, or I will send it registered to any friend of yours in England. I am yours very truly A.E. Housman." The letter is dated 26 Nov 1927 the envelope is post marked Cambridge 26 Nov 1927 and is addressed to; "Dr. Edwin Leonard Editor of Parmacal Advance 70 West 40th Street New York, U.S.A. " the envelope is in Housman's hand.some light soil to covers, light wear to corners, lower corners bumped. in red cloth box with gilt , black leather spine label.
