Four rare first edition volumes in French of the Comte d'Albon's astute observations on the history, government, morals, literature and arts of England, Holland, Switzerland, Italy, Spain and Portugal. Camille d’Albon (1753-1789) was a liberal aristocrat of pre-revolutionary France, and was allied with the Physiocrats. Founded by Francois Quesnay, this school of French thinkers formed the first complete system of economics. The basis of the doctrine was the axiom that all wealth originated with the land and that agriculture alone could increase and multiply wealth. Only 10 copies of this edition found in WorldCat.

Four volumes in very good condition, bound in contemporary full marbled leather in the French style, with black and red leather labels, and spines decorated in gilt. Some minor leather loss to the spine ends of Volumes I and IV. Joints and hinges are not cracked or broken. Attractive marbled endpapers, front and rear, with early French owners plate on the front pastedowns. Overall, the interiors are clean and sturdy with no torn or loose pages, and no writing or other marks found. Woodblock head- and tail-pieces. 491, [1 blank], [1]; 447, [1 blank], [2]; 526, [2]; 319, [1 blank], xlix, [2] pages. Page size: 3-7/8" wide X 6-1/2" tall (10 x 16.5 cm.)
