THE NORMANDY NOBODIES. The unit that wheeled and dealed its way through the Normandy Invasionby BOEL, Geoff
Book desription: London: Blandford Press, 1988. 150pp. Book in very good condition, no tears or marks. Previous owner's inscription inside front board. Dustjacket in very good condition, spine ends very slightly bumped. The pen-and-ink drawings and cartoons were made by the author in Normandy and Brussels at the time he writes about. The true story of a small Army detachment of 0ff-beat soldiers who were landed on the Normandy beaches to provide a technical service for the war machines at the Front Line. They were known as the Normandy Nobodies because they got lost and during the first few battles, the Brass Hats did not even know of their existence. When Brussels was being liberated the Nobodies sampled the delights of the Big City. There is an account of Belgian resistance members taking revenge on collaborators, and on Christmas Eve a drunken Commanding Officer attempts to round up his troops to help stem the German breakthrough in the Ardennes. The author shows how the lighter side of war goes hand-in-hand with the darker side.. Hard Cover. Very Good/Very Good.
