After stealing technology from the fairies, teenager/criminal genius Artemis Fowl has constructed a supercomputer so strong that its very unveiling will render all current human technology obsolete. Chicago-based businessman Jon Spiro offers to reward Artemis with gold if he agrees to hold back the computer's debut for a year. However, Spiro is merely setting a trap for Artemis--the computer is stolen away and Artemis's bodyguard, Butler, is gravely injured.
