Period-style full brown calf with blind-stamped borders, brown morocco gilt spine label, brown endpapers. Scattered light foxing. Previous owner's stamp to blank upper margin of title page. A very tall and clean copy.The work was commissioned by Pius VI to celebrate the re-erection and restoration of the obelisk in Piazza Montecitorio. [Zoega's] labours in numismatics led him to take up Egyptological and Coptic studies, which he carried on with success. As a result of his labors he was able to point out to later investigators the path to be followed in the interpretation of hieroglyphics. He is regarded as the associate of Winckelmann and Visconti in establishing scientific archaeology.
